The musical tells the story of two women—Madeline Ashton, a vain actress who believes she’s the most beautiful woman to ever grace stage and screen, and Helen Sharp, a long-suffering author who has always lived in Madeline’s shadow.
When Madeline steals Helen’s fiancé, the rivalry escalates to supernatural extremes. Enter Viola Van Horn, a mysterious woman with a magical potion that promises eternal youth and beauty. After one sip, Madeline and Helen begin a new era of life (and death) with their beauty restored—and a grudge to last for eternity.
Death Becomes Her opened on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on November 21, 2024, following a successful out-of-town tryout in Chicago. The production earned 10 Tony Award nominations and multiple wins, cementing its status as one of Broadway’s hottest shows.
